Ghana stays winning, and this year Dennis Oheneba is one of the clearest reminders of that. As the only Ghanaian nominee for Breakout Star and the fact that the reigning champion came from his home country, Dennis stands at a cultural crossroads: one foot in his rising personal journey, and the other in the pride of a nation that continues to deliver heavyweight talent to the continent.
His rise from Perfect Match Xtra Season 2 winner to continental nominee didn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of intention, presence, and a steady evolution that has made him one of the most intriguing new faces in African entertainment.

Speaking to Top Charts Africa, Dennis brings a grounded energy that is confident but humble, excited but self-aware, very much a man who knows this moment means something.
When asked how it feels to be carrying Ghana’s potential back-to-back win on his shoulders, he smiles through the pressure.
“Thank you so much! It’s definitely exciting and a little bit of pressure, but it’s the good kind. Knowing that someone from Ghana took it last year only pushes me to go harder and represent even better. It’s bigger than me, it’s about showing that Ghana’s creative scene is unstoppable right now.”
There’s a pride in his voice, but also a responsibility. And if there’s anything that defines this season of his life, it’s intentionality. When we asked about the moment everything shifted for him, his answer was simple but sharp.
“I think the turning point was when I decided to be more intentional about my craft. How I present myself, the kind of content I create, and the message behind it. Once I started operating with purpose and consistency, people really started to connect with what I was doing. That’s when the energy shifted.”
It’s the classic blueprint of a Breakout Star: not a lucky moment, but a conscious decision followed by disciplined follow-through.

Of course, none of his rise makes sense without Ghana. The ground, the rhythm, the pulse that shaped him. When asked how his cultural background influences his creative journey, his pride comes through yet again.
“Ghana is my foundation. From the music to the street energy, the humor, and the storytelling, it’s all woven into how I express myself. Our culture has this raw authenticity and rhythm that I always try to carry into my work. Even when I collaborate or reach global audiences, that Ghanaian flavor is always there.”
It’s that “Ghanaian flavor”. Light but powerful, effortless yet intentional that has allowed his influence to travel beyond borders. The NXT Honors nomination celebrates visibility, impact and intentionally and Dennis doesn’t take that lightly.
“It’s surreal in the best way. When I started, I just wanted to create and connect. So seeing it grow into something that travels beyond Ghana and inspires people across Africa is humbling. It reminds me that creativity truly has no borders, it’s about energy, and people everywhere can feel that.”
For someone rising this fast, his perspective on the “breakout moment” is beautifully grounded.
“To me, a breakout moment isn’t just about going viral or being popular. It’s when people finally see you for what you’ve been building quietly for a while. It’s that moment when hard work meets visibility, and everything aligns. It’s proof that consistency pays off.”
Quiet work. Loud results. A combination that defines almost every African creative rewriting the industry right now.
But with visibility comes pressure. The good, the bad, the overwhelming. Staying grounded becomes a skill in itself. So how does Dennis balance evolution with authenticity?
“I remind myself why I started. I keep a small circle that tells me the truth, and I take time to recharge and reflect. Growth is important, but staying authentic is what keeps people connected to you. I never want to lose that.”

There is maturity in that response, the kind found only in someone who knows what it feels like to stand in a spotlight that many dream of, but few are prepared for.
And of course, the question everyone is waiting for: If he wins, what message does he want that moment to send?
His answer is a love letter to the next generation:
“I’d want it to say that it’s possible. No matter where you start or what resources you have, consistency, creativity, and faith can take you far. Your background isn’t a limitation, it’s your superpower. If I can do it, so can you.”
There’s something deeply inspiring about Dennis Oheneba. He doesn’t speak like someone chasing fame; he speaks like someone building a legacy. Smart, intentional, grounded. A young man with a calm vision and a loud impact.
If Ghana is in its winning era, then Dennis is one of the clearest signals of that momentum and whether he takes home the trophy or not, he’s already proven that his influence stretches far beyond a single show, a single season, or a single stage.
