In today’s rapidly evolving music landscape, standing out takes more than just talent; it demands authenticity and boldness. For Chella whose real name is Uzochukwu Micheal Ikechukwu, music has been a lifelong passion, woven into the very fabric of his identity. Having burst onto the scene in 2022, he quickly made waves with his unique sound and message, resonating deeply with fans around the globe. In this candid interview, Chella opens up about his musical journey, inspirations, and the creative process behind his chart-topping single “Nyansh Na Nyansh” and latest EP, Tears of a Mad Man.
TCA: Can you tell us a little about your background and what inspired you to start making music?
CHELLA: I was actually born into music; it has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I’ve always seen myself involved in it whether through singing or just being surrounded by music.
TCA: Oh interesting, so when did you professionally start making music?
CHELLA: I started making music professionally in 2022, but I knew earlier that this was my path.
TCA: How would you describe your sound or style to someone who hasn’t heard your music before?
CHELLA: My sound is spectacularly unique. I would describe it as a reflection of the pain and real situations I face daily.
TCA: Who are some of your biggest influences, and how have they shaped your sound?
CHELLA: I just like creating looks that are weirdly different from how anyone else would want to look.
TCA: What was the inspiration behind your hit single ‘Nyansh Na Nyansh’, and did you anticipate it would resonate so strongly with listeners?
CHELLA: Nyash na Nyash is one of my most unusual inspirations; I got the idea in a wild dream. Its message is actually meant to discourage BBL and encourage girls to be content with their natural bodies.
TCA: How has the success of this single impacted your career?
CHELLA: It has brought me into the limelight. I’ve toured in seven countries, and being able to feature Young Jonn on the remix is a significant achievement for me.
TCA: That’s amazing. You once spoke about the lack of visibility you faced despite the success of your single ‘Nyansh Na Nyansh.’ Has that situation improved?
CHELLA: Yes, it has improved because now I can’t go out in public without hiding my identity due to my newfound fame.
TCA: Did the success of this track influence the direction of your recently released EP ‘Tears Of A Mad Man?
CHELLA: The success of my hit song contributed about 40% to the direction of my newly released EP, ‘TEARS OF A MAD MAN.’
TCA: What is the story behind your latest EP?
CHELLA: The story behind my latest EP, ‘TEARS OF A MAD MAN,’ revolves around a boy who is emotionally traumatized by life experiences involving psychological pain, betrayal, and challenges in love.
TCA: What has been the most challenging part of your musical journey so far?
CHELLA: I think it mostly comes down to money, but social media algorithms are also messed up
TCA: How do you feel about the current state of the music industry, and where do you see yourself within it?
CHELLA: I feel like the music industry is filled with competition because so many talented artists are eager to push harder to reach the top. However, I see myself in my own lane, doing things in my unique and weird style, and I don’t think anyone is ready to be as different and bold as I am.
TCA: Who are some artists you would love to collaborate with in the future?
CHELLA: I’ve made it to seven, and I feel accomplished. It’s not just a big deal; it’s a significant achievement for my music career.
TCA: Where do you see yourself in the next few years as an artist? What’s next on your horizon?
CHELLA: I see myself becoming the weirdest and biggest brand of my kind, and I aim to be a source of joy for everyone through my music. I have so many crazy sounds and a unique lifestyle yet to unleash.
As Chella continues to carve out his own path in the industry, his vision for the future is clear; embrace the weird, stay true to his authentic sound, and become a beacon of joy for fans. With more daring projects on the horizon, it’s only a matter of time before his unique blend of music and creativity solidifies his place as one of the boldest voices in the industry.
